Prolog: I lived in southeast Louisiana in the mid-60's and managed to accumulate a fair collection of pictures of railroading on the Illinois Central, Southern, Gulf Mobile & Ohio plus the terminal activities of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. For years some of these photos resided in the Southeast Louisiana gallery. In December, 2012, I started a complete makeover of the Louisiana section. Click on the St. Tammany Rails for a look at the Gulf Mobile & Ohio, Crown Zellerbach and Southern Railways as they operated in St. Tammany Parish in the mid-1960's. (Note to Yankees and Westerners: A Parish in Louisiana is the same as a County in the rest of the lower 48.) |
| North Carolina | After Louisiana, I lived in central North Carolina (late 60-s through early 70's). There was a pretty interesting mix of train activty there including the Seaboard Coast Line, Southern, Durham & Southern and the original Norfolk Southern. Plus there were some cool steam excursion railroads operating in the mountains of the western part of the state. |
| SCL 1967 - 1970 | SCL in the Raleigh-Durham area including a sampling of passenger and freight trains, both through and local, operating on the both the former SAL and ACL lines. |
