The following pictures were taken as the Amtrak Talgo Mt. Olympus trainset ventured down CORP from Glendale to Ashland, Oregon.

(Click on thumbnail below for larger image)

Northwest Talgo on Grave Creek trestle Left  Dwarfed by the scenic grandeur of  Southwest Oregon, the Northwest Talgo crosses the high trestle over Grave Creek

Right  Looking rather out of place in the countryside of rural Josehpine County, Amtrak passes the Wig-Wag protecting Three Pines Road near Hugo.

Wig-Wag at Three Pines Road, Hugo
Splitting the blades in the City of Rogue River Left  Continuting on into Jackson County, the train splits the blades in the Webmaster's home town.

Right  Looking more like it's crossing a river of brush, the Talgo passes through the truss bridge over the Rogue River at Gold Hill.

Across the Rogue at Gold Hill
Along the Rogue River at Gold Ray Dam Left  Through more great scenery along the Rogue River near Tolo.
I wonder what the fishermen thought seeing Amtrak here.

Right  The dirt road barely visible in the picture to the left is protected by this Wig-Wag along the Rogue River just below Gold Ray Dam.

Another Wig-Wag at Gold Ray Dam near Tolo
Talgo at Tolo with Lower Table Rock in the distance Left  With Lower Table Rock in the distance, the Talgo cruises through Tolo.  The wye above the locomotive is the beginning of the White City Branch and was used to turn the 4449 in 1988.  For a pic of the Daylight on the wye, click here

Right  Near Central Point

Talgo splits another set of double semaphores near Central Point
Through the Medford Yard and a set of double semaphores. Left  The train eases down the main line that divides the Medford yard. Note how the otherwise straight yard tracks detour around the signals.

Right  The Talgo in Medford, next to the old ex-SP depot, open for public inspection.

Northwest Talgo in Medford, by old passenger station
Talgo and Wig-Wag in Medford There's something incongruous and fascinating about ancient wig-wag crossing signals protecting such a modern train.  The Talgo passed 6 of them on the Siskiyou Line.

Left  Downtown Medford

Right  Ashland

Wig-Wag no. 6 in Ashland

Amtrak arrives in Ashland.
Left  The end of the line for the Talgo is this stop in Ashland's Railroad District.
Right   CORP engineer Bud Shirley checking out the cab of one of the two F-59-PHI's.  From the grin on his face, it's obvious he likes what he sees up there.  Dream On, Bud.

Special thanks to the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad for running the Talgo on the Siskiyou Line and for their patience and tolerance with the crowds (especially the railfans) who turned out to see this first Amtrak train ever through this part of Oregon.  Also, many thanks to Rick Perry for his patience and all that driving.
